Departmental Profile

The Department of Pathology at the School of Biomedical Sciences, Makerere University College of Health Sciences is among the oldest departments in the University. Historically, the Department is associated with great contributions to pathology  which -include the first clinical description of Buruli ulcer by Sir Albert Cook in 1897, Endomyocardial Fibrosis (EMF) by JNP Davies in 1948 and Burkitt lymphoma by Denis Parsons Burkitt in 1956.

The Department is involved in teaching, research and provision of pathology services to the community. The pathology services rendered here include mainly anatomical pathology, cytopathology, clinical pathology, haematopathology, forensic medicine and pathology, chemical pathology, genetics and immunohisto/cytochemistry.
